If you’re a league admin or coach of a youth athlete, you know how important it is to have complete details of each player on your team.
When registering athletes, the information you collect is what you use to build your team rosters and it can be easy to get caught up in the stress of the registration process and overlook some details.
Here are a few important details many coaches and admins might overlook when registering athletes:
- An athlete’s health conditions
Although this seems like a no-brainer, this should be the first thing to look at once a child is registered. As a league admin, you need to ask each parent or guardian if the child has any health conditions, such as allergies or physical/learning disabilities. The more specific the questions, the better. That way, if something comes up health-wise, as a coach or league admin, you know exactly what to do and where to look for this information.
- An athlete’s skill level
When choosing teams, it’s important to know who the child is and what they are capable of in sports. Knowing what skill level everyone has helps even the playing field. Three questions a league admin should include in registration are:
- How many years of experience do you have?
- Is this your first time playing a team sport?
- If not, where have you played before?
The above questions can help administrators as they look to build team rosters. It’s something that allows them to organize teams so that talent is spread out across a league and each athlete is set up for an opportunity to learn how to play the game.
- Multiple emergency contacts
Once you collect the background information above from your players, you need to have a full, detailed contact sheet with the name of each athlete’s emergency contact. We, of course, hope to never have to use this information, but should the situation arise, you want to be able to quickly react to ensure the safety of each athlete.
Following the registration process, you must be able to store this information all in one place.
At Pickle Juice, we offer a news and document feature that allows you to keep these documents all in one place where they can be easily accessed—you’ll never know when you might need to have someone’s contact information, doctor’s information, or allergy lists, and you don’t want to scramble to find them in a time when you need it most.
With this registration feature, you can ensure your registration process is simplified. Learn more about our News and Documents feature here.
